David Solomon
Artist profile

My artwork is my passion and I work mostly sculpturally in clay, with my work being defined by hand-built, non-functional, abstract ceramics. While I mostly use clay, sometimes I add other creative materials to my ceramic work such as glass, wood and marble.
I update my designs for an ever-changing society within urban and rural settings, and I'm inspired by modernism, post-modernism, architecture and nature.
Hence, my work reflects on society and the issues that are important to us and the world. I also bring my Jewish faith into my work.
My work is spontaneously created or sometimes planned out. I am still influenced by my country of origin, South Africa, but of course Sydney and wider Australia, also strongly influence my works’ form and colour.
I use bright coloured glazes, earthy glazes, raku glazes and underglazes. The size of my artwork ranges from small 6 cm high to more than one meter high. I sell my work at galleries and privately, I'm also open to commissions.
I also enjoy painting now -with acrylic paint – modern bold forms and bright colours, lots of energy and occasionally it will interlink with my sculptures. Exhibit both together
